Productive Procrastination

Hello, my name is Danielle and I am a procrastinator.

Phew, I am glad that's out the way!

A problem shared is a problem halved, the first step is admitting you have a problem...phrases of that nature and all that crap....yep.

Procrastination is both a problem and a hobby of mine. I find myself mindlessly procrastinating over the smallest of tasks, sometimes I procrastinate over making dinner. Awful, I know.

I thought once I hit my final year of uni (yay!), that I would almost grow out of procrastinating, and that the sheer pressure of having to write a dissertation, whilst running a society, maintaining my obviously very fleeting social life, stopping myself becoming obese (whoops...), and managing to actually get enough sleep, would be enough to force me out of this professional procrastinator title I have given myself.

Did it hell.

Having said that, I find myself now productively procrastinating.

Uh huh, that is actually a thing. I am actually going to insert Urban Dictionary below, just to feel a lot better about myself.

It would appear that I have been given as an example. I need help.

Instead of binge watching anime on Netflix (I am still a teeny bit guilty of this on the odd occasion when I give in to the temptation), I now find myself tidying, hoovering, actually making a proper meal, and the worst of all....making lists of the things I am procrastinating over.

To-do lists are my life.

I treated (using this term loosely) myself to a whiteboard the other day, simply because I thought (echem, knew) it would help me keep in check with what I should be doing, where I should be going, and when I should be doing things.

So far, so good.

Ish.

I am still procrastinating...possibly less so productively considering I should probably be doing work right now instead of procrastinating by writing about procrastinating about procrastinating over the things I was originally procrastinating over.

Ow. Does your brain hurt, too? Sorry.

The silver lining to my ever greying cloud? I am actually several thousands of words ahead of where I need to be. I have actually been told, nay ordered, to take a break and go home.

Who'd have thought? Danielle the serial procrastinator being told off for doing too much work?

Miracles do happen!

So, please make me feel better about my life and tell me your procrastination stories in the comments below. I don't want to be alone!

Ultimate Blog Challenge Introduction: My posts

Hiiii-aaaa!

So I have told you a little tiny bit about the Ultimate Blog Challenge (UBC from now on as I am lazy). Now because I have told you about it, I can finally tell you a bit about what my posts are going to be about! Yay!

After much deliberation and research, I found a little page on the old inter-web. It was full of awesome holidays from all over the year. I know what you're thinking, but we aren't talking about your bog standard holidays like Christmas, bla bla bla. We are talking about crazy, random things here!

From this, I decided that I would be focusing my UBC on the random holidays I found for July!

Each day will correspond to the holiday I found, with the exception of the 16th which will be a post dedicated to Vikki as it will be her birthday!

Each post will include information about the day, things you could do and my ridiculous ramble about it - you all know how much I like to ramble.

In addition to these I will be starting my new segment of "A Day In The Life" where I will be boring you with the non events of my life. I am sure you will enjoy it.

So stay tuned over the next month for my 2 daily posts!

Final city list for my world tour!

Hello there, buddies!

So if you are a regular reader you will be aware that I am planning on travelling the world with my trusty companions +James Martin (Blog God), +Ryan Steppel (Mr Milk), and +Vikki Lamb. We had an extremely long conversation the other day where we have finally managed to put together a final list of all the cities we will be visiting! So naturally, I thought I would share this with you guys!

We have also decided to pitch our idea of travelling with a few companies who might be interested so that we can get both publicity for the company and more expertise on travelling! As you might have heard, the 2015-2016 budget cuts have been announced and the departments with the most cuts are the criminal justice system and the Ministry of Justice - which kinda screws me over as these are the industries I will be trying to work in and 2015 is the year I graduate from uni, so I am kinda stuck. So I am going to attempt to get a job. save for a few years and go travelling to make me more employable - and because I am an ultimate tourist!

Here is an awesome map I spent hours putting together with all our destinations on it:

Thank you to Google Maps for allowing me to do that!

As you can see, we are going to be extremely busy bee's.

We have come to the conclusion that we are going to take two years to travel this, including spending approximately 6 months in Australia as we want to travel the entirety of the country instead of just select cities like in the other countries.

We also came to the idea that we could drive through Europe. We would love to travel in one of those old VW Campers, but then had a bit of a reality check as we found out they are like £10 000 each.....bit over expensive for us really......so we are back to flying and trains and whatnot.

And we thought that as we have shared all this stuff with you guys already that we should document the entire thing on YouTube! We came up with a name for our channel: 730 Days In Transit! My travelling section of my blog will now be under that name and anything about our trip will be found on there. This includes updates between now and going, and when we are on the move!

Above is the banner for our channel! Go onto YouTube and search for 730DaysInTransit and hit the subscribe button! I can promise you our videos will be insane!

Now, here are a selection of the cities we will be travelling to. I can't include them all as there are hundreds and it would make the post very long and boring.

Paris (France)
Lapland (Finland)
Barcelona (Spain)
Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)
Easter Island (Chile)
Ifaty (Madagascar)
Serengeti (Africa)
Melbourne (Australia)
Queenstown (New Zealand)
Rotuma (Fiji)
Bangkok (Thailand)
Marina Bay Sands (Singapore)
Instabul (Turkey)
Mumbai (India)
Las Vegas (USA)
Arenal (Costa Rica)
Honolulu (Hawaii)
Moscow (Russia)

These are such a small selection of cities, and we have so many more!

Feel free to contact me if you actually want to know more on this, I am more than happy to answer any questions.

If you live in any of the cities above, or think it would be awesome for us to visit your hometown, then comment below!

10 ways how to procrastinate like a pro

Hello there, buddies!

If you know me you will know that I am extremely good at procrastinating. I also always fall to doing my work the last minute after procrastinating for about 2 months then panicking. I am pretty sure this applies more to uni students, but I did this at A Level also, and it could apply to GCSE's; listen up kiddies! So without further ado here are my awesome 10 ways how I procrastinate.

1. Sit down to do work, write the title, have a break.
I am guilty of doing this. All the time. I always get the motivation to do my work then sit down to do it, write only the title and poof, motivation gone. I have no idea why this happens but it always does. Then I do it consistently for 6 weeks then realise that my essay is due in the next day. Then do it again for a few hours and then finally write it.

2. Tidy your entire room, including your wardrobe (even if it is spotless).
Yes, I do this also. My room is usually relatively tidy, but when I have work to do it looks as if a bomb has hit it. I will find any little tiny thing to tidy - including the pins on my pin board. Then I will go through my entire wardrobe sorting it out in a bid to make everything tidier. Gah this sounds like I have OCD - I don't. Deary me. I need a life.

3. Watch an entire TV series.
Last time I needed to do an essay I ended up watching an entire season of Man V Food. Then True Blood. Then Desperate Housewives. Then realised that I should do some work. But didn't do work - oopsie. I also stopped watching Eastenders in a bid to stop doing work, but now I actually like it and I still watch it. Oh well. This way has probably been the reason that I didn't do as well as I could have done on a couple of my essays. So I would recommend that you do this one carefully, haha!

4. Have a nap.
Yup, you read that right. Grab some shut eye! Even if this is a good method of procrastination it can actually help. I know, I am actually trying to help now! Sleep can help refresh your brain which means that you might actually be able to write your essay when you wake up.

5. Browse the internet.
Another one which I fall victim to all the time. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Daily Mail, 9gag, BBC iplayer - all reasons why I don't ever get anything done. It's all technology's fault. Stupid modern times. Stupid brain getting sidetracked by everything.

6. Start a blog.
I started my original blog (on Walt Disney World in Florida) as a means of procrastination. I spent like hours a day doing research for it - I still do with this blog, but it requires slightly less research. Starting a blog is also a great way to let off steam. I know what the first year can be like; new home, new people, stress of living on your own bla bla bla. So you can write all your feelings down on a blog and feel so much better about it! Just try not to let it get too much in the way of your work, because you won't get anywhere if you don't try!

7. Download a new app and play it for hours.
This happened to me and Temple Run 2, Fruit Ninja and Fall Down 2. Jeez, they are so addictive. Well done, app creators. This can be seriously bad, as you can see. I played Temple Run 2 continuously for like 2 hours 4 days before my essay was due in. Whoops. Don't follow in my footsteps, dudes.

8. Organise your work.
I know that both Vikki and I do this. When our final essays were due in, our work was in a much better condition and was all filed away than what it had been throughout the entire year. That is awful, isn't it?....Wow. This procrastination tip can work both ways: it means that you aren't doing your work, but you are organising it at the same time. Yay!

9. Go shopping, buy a new video game, play it for hours.
Two tips in one here, dudes. Going shopping is a great break, but a great procrastination tip. I did this, then went to buy a new game (in the form of Roller Coaster Tycoon 3) and then continued to play it for about 12 hours before realising I had an essay due in. Genius, Danielle, absolutely wonderful. I still managed to get the work done though. Impressed? You should be,

10. Panic about not having done your work.
I have been victim to doing all of these in one go, then done this one right at the end. This is the worst one I think. It means that your brain goes into "holy shit" mode and you will never get anywhere and will never get anything done. So try and chill, buddies.

Having now said this, I am shocked I passed my first year....

Disclaimer: I am not promoting not doing your work! Please make sure that you actually do your work!

If you do any of these, or have any different ones then leave a comment in the box below!

University withdrawal symptoms

Hello there, buddies!

I miss uni :(

I genuinely think I am getting withdrawal symptoms from being there.

For all of you who haven't been to uni yet or just simply don't plan on going this is the sort of thing I mean: you live on your own (actually with friends) for an entire year. This means you can do what you want, when you want. You have all this freedom to do absolutely anything at absolutely any time. For instance, ordering pizza at 3AM (yes, I am guilty of this). You can go out without worrying about waking people up when you get in, or the fact you have to be home by a certain time. I used to stay awake all night then sleep most of the day, and I would have friend round until 6AM. So much freedom!

Then you come home.

Don't get me wrong, seeing my family is nice. But I miss my freedom. I have to live under someone else's house and (slightly) follow their rules. My parents are pretty chilled about this shit to be honest. I still get to do what I want, the when I want is a bit more restricted but they get that I am getting older now and I have my own life. So they don't make me do stuff like be out of bed early like they used to. But, at the end of the day, it isn't my own house or flat.

Being home also means I need to get a job. I have been quite lucky in that I have managed to get myself 3 jobs for the summer, one being in the area that I want to start a career in when I graduate uni. I have been very fortunate in this, but having been unemployed for a year, going back to work was a shock!

I am also finding myself having a weirder sleeping pattern to what I did when I was at uni. I am going to bed at around 2AM - this is considerably earlier than when I was at uni - but sometimes waking up at like 8AM. For anyone who hasn't experience university life, this will seem probably normal to you, but let me put this in perspective. At uni I sleep from around 5AM until 1PM on an average day, not including days when I am hungover or being lazy (most days). This weird adjustment to working life has messed around my body clock. Weird. I am going to have to readjust come September when I toddle back down south. Oh dear.

My alcohol intake has considerably decreased. Ok, lets address this first. In the first term of uni (September-December) I would be going out for an average of 4 nights a week (don't judge me). Second term (January - March) it decreased a lot as I had a lot of essays and stuff due in so we are looking at about once or twice a week. And in the last term (up until May) I went out like twice. My alcohol intake varied each night. Some nights we are looking at 3/4 of a bottle of vodka....other nights more, other nights less. So my intake was rather a lot - me and my liver no longer are friends. Since I have been home I have been out twice involving alcohol. This was not a normal night out, it was more of a social event with some friends. I am slightly concerned that I am going to become such a lightweight when I am back at uni. Freshers week will be interesting.

I gained several addictions whilst at uni. These were Pepsi max, coffee, tea, chocolate digestive biscuits and curry. Stop shaking your head at me, I am unhealthy. I have already been told I am not to drink any more coffee for a few weeks as it got to the point where I was getting no rush from it anymore. My parents don't really buy Pepsi Max so I am having to try and stop my addiction. Not working. I am shaking like mad all the time. Oops.

I am also getting withdrawal symptoms from my uni friends. Sad face. Having gone from seeing them every single day without fault, to not seeing them at all sucks. God, I am such a loser.....The only contact we have is Facebook, Twitter and text. Bet you're thinking "why don't you just go see them then?". Well, my friend, this is a slight problem as they are all scattered around the place. Panic not, I am organising something, so I won't be a sad mess for much longer.

I am starting to think that this should be diagnosed as some kind of medical condition. All my friends are like "we need to get back to Plymouth", "I am bored of home", "I miss uni", so it is not just me, ok?

Okies I think I should stop this little rant because it is starting to get out of hand.....

Don't forget to subscribe to my blog and use all the buttons and whatnot to your right to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr bla bla bla. You know the drill.

Speak to you tomorrow!

Appropriate plane behaviour

Hello there, buddies!

Ok, today I want to talk about plane etiquette, and things that annoy me when I fly (on a plane ofc). I don't know about you, but there are just certain things that are just completely inappropriate on a plane. This might be me being snobby, but there are bound to be people out there (like you guys) who find these things annoying too! They just bug the absolute shit out of me. Commence rant.

Ok the first thing that I think needs to be addressed here is parents with younger kids. Don't get me wrong, I love kids. But when you have someone's baby screaming next to you for the whole 9 and a half hours that it takes to get to Florida, you sometimes start to go a little insane. Am I wrong? It might just be me, but seriously, can you not shut your baby up for literally 5 minutes?! I have also had a flight - again to Florida, I know I am so adventurous - where some kid behind me was just constantly throwing up. Gross. And I have this major phobia of the sound of someone being sick, the sick itself doesn't bother me, but the sound....ergh I hate it so much. So you can imagine me on this flight. Grouchy as fuck just sat with my headphones turned right up so that I can't hear anything. Did the job after a while.

Another thing people need to pay attention to is hand luggage. There are a few things which bug me about this. The first is people who put their hand luggage under the WRONG seat. I am not being funny, but I really do not understand how people do this....there are videos saying to put it under the seat IN FRONT of you, but people insist on putting it under their seat. Pretty sure their life jackets are under there. If we crashed into the sea you'd be wearing your bag instead of a life jacket.....The other thing is when people constantly push your luggage out from the seat in front of you when they decide that it is a great storage place for their feet. This happened to me on my most recent flight to Spain. I have a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shell backpack (don't judge me) and some pain in the ass kept kicking it so it would come out from the space it was in. Gah it bugged me so much.

Now this one is just be being a picky bitch, but if you have been on a long haul flight you might sympathise. People who snore loudly. When you are flying overnight on a 10 hour flight the main thing you want to do is sleep. Now I find it extremely difficult to sleep on a plane, but when you have that one bald guy opposite you just snoring so loudly with his mouth wide open, you just wanna plug a pillow in his mouth to shut him up.

This one is more aimed towards planes themselves. Well not the planes, but plane companies. This problem I have would be plane food. I have never had a great experience with plane food, it all seems to be bland cardboard-ness. I have also had what they called a bread roll which was frozen to fuck. Lovely. At least they try and make up for it with little bags of pretzels and mini ice creams. To give credit to them, breakfast is usually ok. I love the little pots of orange juice they give out. I'm sad.

Another thing that bugs me when I am on a plane is when you land. People think that as soon as the seat belt sign is turned off that they should stand up, get all their shit from the overhead lockers and just stand there and block the aisles. Now I find this very irritating as it means that no one can get off the plane until they move. And every time they do this, they decide that just as the plane doors open to faff around and do stuff IN THE AISLE so that you can't get out. Aaaahhh some of us want to be off the plane we have been stuck on for hours! Jeez.

I wanna mention appropriate behaviour when there is turbulence. I have flown through a hurricane so I know bad turbulence. I know it is a scary thing, and that people panic. But when a flight gets slightly bumpy and you hear people screaming and shouting I just do not understand. When you are flying through cloud it will tend to get bumpy because of the wind.....you are not going to free-fall out the sky are you? So chill your shit and have a drink.

Chair kicking. It is just completely unnecessary on planes. I am not being funny but you are not the only one who is uncomfortable. My dad is 6'3 and you don't see him kicking anyone's chair because he is all cramped up do ya? No, you do not. So please, 5'3 woman, stop kicking my chair because it winds me up and I will turn around and give you death stares. Thanks.

And finally (I know, another long rant. Sorry), there is the situation of annoying air hostesses (don't start singing Busted). Does no one else find it incredibly irritating when all they do is smile? I wanna see one get really pissed off and shout at that kid who won't stop pestering, or the one person who is always pressing the summon button. Omg that would be awesome.
