Hello there, buddies.
Well I was thinking about what sort of thing to write today and I got slightly distracted by pondering life...like you do. Then I thought maybe I could make my ponderings into something on here. So that is exactly what I am going to do!
I thought that it might be fun, and good to read for you guys if I take some things I think and chuck them on to you. Sort of like an advice column...but in one place.
After chatting to the lovely Sam about this post, it was suggested that I make this a sort of weekly segment. I don't know about you, but I quite like this idea. So, next week I will be doing an advice post on relationships. As this is a blog based on you guys, I want you to send me in questions or things you want advice on. You can do this either by Tweeting me @LovelyChubly or commenting on this post. I will use every question, and include some of my own advice snippets, so get them in! The closing date for that will be Friday September 6 at midnight so get your questions in by then!
Anyways, ramble over.
As always I will just rant and ramble and hope it ends up in one block that makes sense.
DISCLAIMER: everything in the following is of the opinion of the author and is under no circumstance applicable to every reader.
Here we go!
Things always get better
I know this is something that people say all the time, but it is seriously true. You have to remember that no matter how low you feel, there is always time for things to get better. Nothing is instant, and most the time you have to work at it yourself, but things will always be brighter at the end of it. I can pretty much guarantee that you either tutted at me or rolled your eyes at this first one. If you are then I can probably also say you have never been in the position where you are just rock bottom...so you are one lucky person. Just always remember to keep strong and chin up. Improving things can only be done if you want them to happen, so doing anything can literally help that. Anything from writing (like I do) to taking up a new hobby could make you feel ten times better in minutes. Give it a try - what have you got to lose?
Don't be a fucking idiot
This sounds harsh, I know. But sometimes you think something might be a good idea then you look back several years later and the whole "what the fuck was I thinking?" thing comes up. Well here is a secret life hint from me to you: don't be fucking stupid, moron. I wish someone told me that like 4 years ago, so you might thank me for this in a few years. There are some things in life that you will just thing "yes" straight away, well just think before you do something.
Appreciate what you have when it's there
This can apply from anything from material things to people. Nothing last forever, no matter what you think - it really doesn't. You never want to look back on something and think "why the fuck did I not treat them/it better". Material things, and especially people, should be appreciated for what they are. Time flies by and sometimes some things can be over before they have even really started, so don't be an asshole.
Listen to yourself
Most people will tell you to listen to your heart, but I am saying your heart is an asshole, so don't do that. Listen to your instincts, and always go with the things you think of. Go full pelt in to something, if it doesn't work then hey ho. My thoughts are: if you decide something else, then you clearly didn't want the first thing at all. If you are making decisions then use this tip: flip a coin - you will be able to see what you want that way. I am not being vague, that is literally how it works. Only you can know what you truly want - don't listen to anyone else because they are probably idiots. Sorry.
Embrace every new opportunity
I think this is just a given really. Just learn to say "yes" more. As someone who doesn't like to move from her comfort zone much, I can tell you that you will probably regret not saying yes to things. I am not talking stupid and illegal things, I am saying things that you wouldn't get offered normally. An example of this for me is this blog you are reading. I was terrified of starting this and it is so out of my comfort zone to write my thoughts down for people to see. But I did it, and now look! But then again I have you guys to thank for that, not myself. Basically, don't turn down things that could really help you out.
Don't be afraid
This links in with the point above - don't be scared to do different things, and just don't be afraid of life in general. There isn't a lot of time to be scared in life. You don't get anywhere in life by being scared.
Be cheeky
I think I am slightly labelled as cheeky by my friends, but you don't get anything without being a little bit cheeky! This stands for anything I guess from people to little things like writing and whatnot. I am just cheeky in general, so be a little bit cheeky - it might get you somewhere.
Stand up for yourself
Don't get someone else dictate to you about something you believe in. If you think you are right, or you really believe in something, don't let people tell you that you should think or do something else. I get told all the time that I shouldn't be a writer or even have a blog, and yeah it gets me down for a while, then I think "fuck them" and get straight back to it. If you love doing something then screw what everyone else thinks!
Save money
As someone who is quite bad at saving money, try and find something to save for and go from there. I am currently saving up to go travelling in Australia, so I am generally quite good at it. I wish I had saved more money from my old job, but I didn't because I am stupid. So this is probably the most important snippet in my entire post, and you should really listen to me here, folks! Money does make the world go round, and you can't do anything without it.
Do something
Do something with your life. Don't just sit around and think that things will get handed to you, because they don't. To be honest, it doesn't even matter what it is - whether you start a blog, do some arty stuff or even something else, just do something. You never know where it could end you up.
Be confident
I feel like a bit of a hypocrite telling you this as I am not exactly a confident person myself, but in the last few years I think I have got slightly better. Being confident is quite a good trait to have, I think. This is all about being confident in yourself and then other people can see it. I am ten times more confident in myself than I ever was, I think I just came out my shell a bit after a long time of feeling shit about myself. So just tell yourself little things and soon enough you will feel better.
Don't be cocky
This goes hand in hand with being confident - don't get overconfident and get cocky. It is just unattractive and unappealing.
Don't be a doormat
I am guilty of doing this sometimes, but don't let people walk all over you. This works with the stand up for yourself thing. Stick to your morals, don't give in to peer pressure, and stay true to yourself.
Use common sense
I think this is self explanatory?
Don't over-think things
Like your heart, your brain is also an asshole. You can tend to ponder on things for long periods of time (like I do) then you can be all like "what the fuck" about something that seemed perfectly normal and fine 10 minutes ago. Try not to do this because otherwise life will just get so overly complicated and then you'll panic about everything and trust no one. Which sucks.
Accept advice
This is still something I am learning to do. But take advice from people who know better than you, and accept what people have to say.
Listen in school
This is something I continuously tell everyone I know who is still in compulsory education - I would be nowhere if I didn't get good grades at school. You might not think it is "cool" to be smart (if you think this then you are just fucking ridiculous) but it seriously is. I cannot have a conversation with someone who thinks they are above education. In an economy like this one, you need the best grades you can to get a job - so don't fuck your education up.
Not everyone is going to like you
You can't please everyone in life, and some people are just going to be bitchy. You will probably encounter some serious asshole in life, so remember to not get pissed off or upset by them if they give you shit. Chances are you are a million times better than them in the first place.
Don't try to understand people
This I think is another given that people are just ridiculously confusing? Do any of you think this, too? Maybe it is just me. But my ultimate life tip is to not try to understand everything about everyone because you could probably turn this in to some big mathematical theory and then just go crazy doing it.
You can't be good at everything
As a bit of a perfectionist, I sort of find this a bit of a daily struggle. Something I am trying to come to terms with is that there is no way I can be good at everything. This was more in school where I was really good at English and whatnot, but pretty shit at maths. So if you can learn to accept that there will be some things you will need help or extra work with then you probably will be a much better person than I am.
Don't be afraid to ask for help
I am bad at this. But if you take one thing from this post then take this - asking for help doesn't make you weak! This can literally be about anything. It will probably help you out more than just struggling on your own.
Ok so I am going to stop because this is probably not what any of you want to read.
Please remember that these things are taken from aspects of my life, or of the lives of the people around me. They may not apply to you so don't go nuts at me!

RIP to the 19 firefighters killed in Arizona
I would like to take this opportunity to talk about the fire in Arizona, USA which has claimed the lives of 19 firefighters.
The fire started after a lightning storm on Friday (June 28) in Arizona, USA as has so far destroyed 8400 acres of land. Approximately 1000 people have had to vacate their homes, and 200 houses have been claimed by the fire.
I have left it a few days since the news broke to write this post as I am still finding it very difficult to write.
My heart really goes out to the families of the firefighters who have died in this fire. As a daughter of a UK firefighter, I know how scary it can be when they go off to a call, but I cannot even begin to comprehend the pain and emotion these families are going through at the moment. Some of these men are so unbelievably young; they didn't get the chance to even start their lives properly.
I read an article today on the Daily Mail website about the last conversation between Juliann Ashcraft and her husband who was attending to the fire, Andrew Ashcraft. I hope that she would not mind me writing this post. Her husband had been continuously texting her throughout the day to inform her that he was OK, until he stopped texting. I won't lie, I was in tears after reading that article. He leaves behind 4 young children. I am refraining from putting pictures of her and her family up on my website as I believe this would be a breach of their privacy, and I would not want to affect them at this sad time. You can read more about her story by clicking here.
Each of the men who died in this fire, in my opinion, died heroes. Now you may dispute this, but I think anyone, no matter how little someone may think their existence may be, is a hero when they put their lives on the line daily in order to save the life of someone else. These men were trying to extinguish a fire, despite being caused naturally, was destroying the lives of thousands of people. It is completely unarguable in my head that these men did absolutely everything they could to keep the residents of the Arizonian town safe, I find it very sad that in this circumstance that it then involved them losing their own lives.
The emergency shelters that the men had put up in order to protect them from the fires unfortunately did not save them from the fire, nor could the helicopters. It has been reported that when the bodies of the men were found, some where inside their shelters whilst others were outside, suggesting that the fire has overcome them very quickly.
This has been the biggest incident claiming the lives of firefighters since 9/11, and is the deadliest blaze for firefighters in America for almost 80 years. The entire crew for this city was claimed by this fire, apart from one survivor who is in a critical condition.
To anyone who wishes to say that the firefighters must have been in the wrong (I have seen several comments surface on the internet saying this), I would like to say that firefighters are trained to the highest of standards, and they were undoubtedly following the safety protocol here, and that is was the unpredictability of the fire which in fact claimed their lives.
Fire Chief Dan Fraijo has been quoted saying "we grieve for the family. We grieve for the department. We grieve for the city. We're devastated. We just lost 19 of the finest people you'll ever meet".
Residents of the town have been since laying down tributes and flowers outside the gates of the fire station since the news broke on Monday. I sincerely hope, for the memory of these men, that they are rewarded for their bravery in some way. These men deserve the highest of commendation for their sacrifice. I don't care what anyone else says, they really do deserve that.
Over 1000 people gathered on Monday night in the gymnasium of the university in Prescott, Arizona in memory of the 19. President Obama has called the men heroes, and has since deployed other crews to help as the fire still continues to burn.
Here are the names of the 19 men who were killed:
Andrew Ashcraft - 29
Robert Caldwell - 23
Travis Carter - 31
Dustin Deford - 24
Christopher MacKenzie - 30
Eric Marsh - 43
Grant McKee - 21
Sean Misner - 26
Scott Norris - 28
Wade Parker - 22
John Percin - 24
Anthony Rose - 23
Jesse Steed - 36
John Thurston - 32
Travis Turbyfill - 27
William Warneke - 25
Clayton Whitted - 28
Kevin Woyjeck - 21
Grant Zuppiger - 27
Writing so many names is horrible. I will not be putting pictures up of these men.
Reading and having to write about something like this makes me really appreciate the fact that after over 20 years in the fire service, I still have my dad safe and sound. I couldn't even tell you how scary it is every time I know my dad is out on a call, and there is always that horrible little voice in the back of your head saying "what if he doesn't come back?". Just thinking about that really gets to me, so knowing that these people are currently having to go through that is so heartbreaking.
My thoughts are with the families affected by this. So many of the firefighters were so young too, which is really sad, many of them not even in to their late 20s.
I know that firefighters knows when entering the profession that it is dangerous, but nothing can prepare anyone for this sort of thing. Fires on this scale are unpredictable and completely uncontrollable. I hope that the families are getting all the support that they need, and that someone honors these men in the highest possible way.
There are currently investigations under way to figure out what could have caused these deaths, and there have been suggestions of wind gusts being investigated.
Approximately 250 firefighters are still battling the fire, and around 18 other hotshot crews have been deployed.
I welcome all comments on this post, but if there is one negative comment on here about these men or the circumstances you will be reported and blocked for the foreseeable future from this site.

Ultimate Blog Challenge Introduction: My posts
Hiiii-aaaa!
So I have told you a little tiny bit about the Ultimate Blog Challenge (UBC from now on as I am lazy). Now because I have told you about it, I can finally tell you a bit about what my posts are going to be about! Yay!
After much deliberation and research, I found a little page on the old inter-web. It was full of awesome holidays from all over the year. I know what you're thinking, but we aren't talking about your bog standard holidays like Christmas, bla bla bla. We are talking about crazy, random things here!
From this, I decided that I would be focusing my UBC on the random holidays I found for July!
Each day will correspond to the holiday I found, with the exception of the 16th which will be a post dedicated to Vikki as it will be her birthday!
Each post will include information about the day, things you could do and my ridiculous ramble about it - you all know how much I like to ramble.
In addition to these I will be starting my new segment of "A Day In The Life" where I will be boring you with the non events of my life. I am sure you will enjoy it.
So stay tuned over the next month for my 2 daily posts!

10 ways how to procrastinate like a pro
Hello there, buddies!
If you know me you will know that I am extremely good at procrastinating. I also always fall to doing my work the last minute after procrastinating for about 2 months then panicking. I am pretty sure this applies more to uni students, but I did this at A Level also, and it could apply to GCSE's; listen up kiddies! So without further ado here are my awesome 10 ways how I procrastinate.
1. Sit down to do work, write the title, have a break.
I am guilty of doing this. All the time. I always get the motivation to do my work then sit down to do it, write only the title and poof, motivation gone. I have no idea why this happens but it always does. Then I do it consistently for 6 weeks then realise that my essay is due in the next day. Then do it again for a few hours and then finally write it.
2. Tidy your entire room, including your wardrobe (even if it is spotless).
Yes, I do this also. My room is usually relatively tidy, but when I have work to do it looks as if a bomb has hit it. I will find any little tiny thing to tidy - including the pins on my pin board. Then I will go through my entire wardrobe sorting it out in a bid to make everything tidier. Gah this sounds like I have OCD - I don't. Deary me. I need a life.
3. Watch an entire TV series.
Last time I needed to do an essay I ended up watching an entire season of Man V Food. Then True Blood. Then Desperate Housewives. Then realised that I should do some work. But didn't do work - oopsie. I also stopped watching Eastenders in a bid to stop doing work, but now I actually like it and I still watch it. Oh well. This way has probably been the reason that I didn't do as well as I could have done on a couple of my essays. So I would recommend that you do this one carefully, haha!
4. Have a nap.
Yup, you read that right. Grab some shut eye! Even if this is a good method of procrastination it can actually help. I know, I am actually trying to help now! Sleep can help refresh your brain which means that you might actually be able to write your essay when you wake up.
5. Browse the internet.
Another one which I fall victim to all the time. Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Daily Mail, 9gag, BBC iplayer - all reasons why I don't ever get anything done. It's all technology's fault. Stupid modern times. Stupid brain getting sidetracked by everything.
6. Start a blog.
I started my original blog (on Walt Disney World in Florida) as a means of procrastination. I spent like hours a day doing research for it - I still do with this blog, but it requires slightly less research. Starting a blog is also a great way to let off steam. I know what the first year can be like; new home, new people, stress of living on your own bla bla bla. So you can write all your feelings down on a blog and feel so much better about it! Just try not to let it get too much in the way of your work, because you won't get anywhere if you don't try!
7. Download a new app and play it for hours.
This happened to me and Temple Run 2, Fruit Ninja and Fall Down 2. Jeez, they are so addictive. Well done, app creators. This can be seriously bad, as you can see. I played Temple Run 2 continuously for like 2 hours 4 days before my essay was due in. Whoops. Don't follow in my footsteps, dudes.
8. Organise your work.
I know that both Vikki and I do this. When our final essays were due in, our work was in a much better condition and was all filed away than what it had been throughout the entire year. That is awful, isn't it?....Wow. This procrastination tip can work both ways: it means that you aren't doing your work, but you are organising it at the same time. Yay!
9. Go shopping, buy a new video game, play it for hours.
Two tips in one here, dudes. Going shopping is a great break, but a great procrastination tip. I did this, then went to buy a new game (in the form of Roller Coaster Tycoon 3) and then continued to play it for about 12 hours before realising I had an essay due in. Genius, Danielle, absolutely wonderful. I still managed to get the work done though. Impressed? You should be,
10. Panic about not having done your work.
I have been victim to doing all of these in one go, then done this one right at the end. This is the worst one I think. It means that your brain goes into "holy shit" mode and you will never get anywhere and will never get anything done. So try and chill, buddies.
Having now said this, I am shocked I passed my first year....
Disclaimer: I am not promoting not doing your work! Please make sure that you actually do your work!
If you do any of these, or have any different ones then leave a comment in the box below!

Disney movie lies
Hello there, buddies!
Ok now I am going to be talking about the fact that Disney movies lie. This is coming from a big Disney fan, so this is the real deal!
There are certain aspects of Disney movies which just really don't show real life! They're like those expectations vs reality things. They make people - including myself - have ridiculously high expectations of life, or teach them some things that really make me cringe a little!
Ok well first of all films like High School Musical make it seem like it's not a cool thing to sing.....what the hell?! I wish I could sing, so how people can think it is uncool I literally do not understand. Stupid 'jocks' and their basketball addictions. But literally everyone in the team can sing.....I literally do not understand. I bet at night they all stood in front of their mirrors with a hairbrush microphone and sang their little hearts out. Don't pretend like you have never done this....
Films such as Sword in the Stone give the idea that weak people always win. I am not being funny, but does this always happen in real life? No. I wish it did, but it really doesn't to be honest. If it was true I would have won way more things than I have. And I'm not talking about arm wrestles here, I am on about real shit. It just doesn't happen. Sorry.
A lot of Disney movies lie really badly about love. The main one I think is Cinderella. I mean, it goes on about how she falls in love with the prince, love at first sight, bla bla bla. But he doesn't even recognise her when it comes to the glass slipper fittings. I mean what sort of prince does that?! Although I do think love at first sight is absolute bullshit, but Disney reaaaaally lays it on thick here. To be brutally honest, the whole portrayal of love in Cinderella is so twisted and weird if you think about it. I'l let your minds wander on that one....
The Little Mermaid says that you need to change to make a man fall in love with you! Girls, you should NEVER change just for a guy. Like never. It also says that it is perfectly acceptable for you to run away from home and make a deal to essentially sell yourself to a weird stranger in exchange for something you want. I am sorry, but no. Just no.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame says that nice guys always finish last. Not being funny, but I would pick a nice guy over an asshole any day.....Although a load of films and TV shows give this idea (and a load of teenage girls would rather pick the hot dickhead, rather than the average looking nice guy) WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!?!?!
Many of the Disney princess films suggest that you can talk to animals, and I think Snow White is the worst for it - AND SHE USES THEM AS SLAVES! What is that?! Have you ever tried talking to an animal? I tried asking my dog to clean my car earlier....nothing.
On a serious note, Robin Hood teaches people that it is OK to steal if you are going to give it to someone poor. What? When is it ever OK to steal? Pretty sure that is theft! That is illegal! Please kids, don't steal.
Pocahontas teaches kids that it is OK to marry a man who is considerably older than you. She is meant to be around 12 years old, whereas John Smith is mean to be about 30.....WHAT THE HELL?! That is just incredibly wrong. And illegal.
The Princess Diaries says that you have to be pretty to be popular. I am sorry but I really have a problem with this. You should not judge a book by its cover! As soon as Mia is 'normal' looking and they know she is a princess every bloody person wants to be her friend. Pretty sure she is exactly the same person as she was before?
Beauty and the Beast basically has two lies in it. It basically says that bestiality is fine.....NO. It also says that you should make yourself fall in love with a guy who bosses you around and locks you up. Since when is that ever ok? Like never.....such lies, Disney.
Mary Poppins says that you can jump into chalk drawings on pavements and end up in this awesome cartoon land with penguins wearing jackets who serve you drinks. The only time that I have ever successfully managed to do this involved a considerable amount of alcohol in my system. Have you ever tried to do this? You just jump.....and you are just on top of a now smudged drawing. Ultimate let down. I wanted penguins to serve me drinks. Sad face.
Sleeping Beauty says that it is alright for a man to come in to your room when you are asleep and kiss you. And she wakes up smiling. If someone did this to me they would end up with a very nice black eye. Is this not creepy?! Do you not think so?!
The Fox and the Hound suggests that being different to someone else is bad and that it shouldn't be allowed. I find this really frustrating 'cause everyone is different - no two people are the same! Even twins are different. Why should someone be punished for being different?!
Alice in Wonderland is saying that it is alright for someone to eat something that is clearly not right and end up as high as a kite. If you really want to read in to this really deeply, it's a drugs promo! She is completely off her head for the entirety of the film! Tut tut, Disney. Shame on you!
Bedknobs and Broomsticks says you can sing underwater. Ok, lets be logical here. Humans cannot breathe underwater.......fail logic, Disney.
Aladdin says that it is OK to defy your parents and run away. When is that ever OK?!
Ok, I am gonna do some generalising of Disney films now, so prepare your brains. Maybe go get a cup of tea or something 'cause this has been a long article. Maybe a biscuit too. Can you make me one?
Disney princesses have given me seriously unrealistic expectations of my hair. Every Disney princess has this immaculate hair with never one little strand out of place. They also all seem to have amazingly thick hair. Look at Jasmine.....that is hair extensions, it has to be. And Rapunzel, where are all your split ends?! My hair would never look that good even if I photoshopped it on. Seriously, get real, Disney. No hair ever looks that perfect.
Another thing with the princesses is that they basically sing their way through life. Would it not look unbelievably weird if you saw someone walking down the street just singing away to themselves...or maybe some animals. I would think that person should be in some kind of institute! It would also be incredibly annoying.....Gah, makes me annoyed just thinking about it!
Have you ever noticed that 99% of all Disney films end in this perfect happy ending? Say what?! How can this be real? Nothing ever ends that perfect. If it does, someone send some of that shit my way!
What about the Disney villains? Lets take a look at them. They are either all old (Evil Stepmothers from Snow White and Cinderella, Mother Gothel, Jafar, Yzma) or incredibly unattractive (Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, Captain Hook, Frollo). Is this not a teeny tiny bit stereotypical? If I took these movies by literal sense I should be 100% shit scared of my grandparents......I'm not. Stereotypes irritate me.
Aaaaand lastly all Disney films suggest that the ultimate goal in life is to marry some hot guy. Look at Cinderella and Snow White, most of their songs are like "some day my prince will come". Your ultimate goal should be to move out and get a really good job! Leading on from this, they all present this Prince Charming figure who they all fall hopelessly in love with straight away. Well, I shit you not, this has still not happened to me, so I am calling bullshit on this one!
Well guys, if you have stuck around for this long to get this far down, I love you. If you have fallen asleep at your keyboards because I bored you to sleep then WAKE UP, IT IS MORNING. Just kidding, it's 11pm, go back to sleep.
Thank you for reading, don't forget to subscribe and follow me on my Twitter @LovelyChubly, and I will speak to you all tomorrow!
